B. P. Singh
Born on 30th November 1951, Dr Bhanu Pratap Singh joined this Institute in 1978. Although his basic training was in aerobiology, he worked on various aspects of allergy including allergenicity and toxicity assessment of genetically modified food, protein and peptide engineering for use in immunotherapy, studies on allergen SIT in patients of respiratory allergy and evaluation of choline/choline chloride for rhinitis and asthma treatment. He has successfully completed several projects related to standardization of allergens, development of ELISA kit for in vitro allergy diagnosis, grass pollen grains and characterization of recombinant allergens. With around seventy publications in international journals, thirty in Indian journals, several books, book chapters and patents to his credit, he was a force to reckon with in the field of allergy diagnosis and therapy.
Dr Singh was a member of several scientific societies including Indian College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ICAAI), South Asia Association of Allergy, Asthma and Clinical Immunology, Indian Aerobiological Society and Society for Biological Chemists, India. He was the recipient of prestigious D. N. Shivpuri oration medal in 2007 for his contributions and distinguished achievements in the field of allergy, asthma and immunology. Under his able guidance, his students have won laurels at both national and international levels.
He firmly believed that you cannot control the length of your life but can control its breadth, depth and height and lived an exemplary life. His friends, colleagues and students fondly remember him as an endearing personality with infinite patience. We pray to the almighty that his soul rests in peace.
