Nucleic Acid Biophysics
Souvik Maiti is interested in unusual DNA and RNA structures , quadruplexes in particular, small RNA and modified oligonucleotides as well as properties of functional nanoparticles.
His major research interests are directed towards understanding:
DNA and RNA quadruplexes and developing novel ligands to target these structures.
Stability and reactivity of locked nucleic acids
Novel nanomaterials and their interaction with living cells.
His group has established the significance of DNA duplex -quadruplex competition and exploit ed this to specifically target quadruplexes . Another important contribution has been detailed biophysical studies on the hybridization thermodynamics of Locked Nucleic Acids. A more recent interest has been in designing antagomirzymes for specific knockdown of miRNA in vitro.
