Neuroepigenetics

Arpita Konar is interested in understanding the mechanism by which early life traumatic experiences impact brain functions and behavior posing risk for mental illness. Using animal models of peripubertal stress she is exploring the epigenetic changes in brain that might trigger abnormal psychiatric and cognitive manifestations in adulthood.

The current areas of research include:

  • Epigenetic regulation and transgenerational inheritance of peripubertal stress induced aggressive behavior
  • Drug screening for modulation of neural morphology and brain functions
  • Drugging the epigenome to improve mental health
