Bhatnagar Award in Chemical Sciences and Medical Sciences goes to IGIB scientists

The Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar awards are conferred in recognition of outstanding Indian work in science and technology. This year, two IGIB scientists have been selected for this coveted prize, Dr. Anurag Agrawal in Medical Sciences and Dr. Souvik Maiti in Chemical Sciences.


The Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for the year 2014 in Medical Sciences is awarded to Dr. Anurag Agrawal of CSIR- Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, New Delhi for his outstanding contributions on establishing a functional link amongst obesity, mitochondrial dysfunction and Asthma, elucidating the mechanism of stem cells donating new mitochondria to dysfunctional human lung cells.

The Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for the year 2014 in Chemical Sciences is awarded to Dr. Souvik Maiti of CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, New Delhi, for his innovative approaches towards drug development based on microRNAs and DNA quadruplexes as targets.
