S. S. Bhatnagar Prize goes to Mitali Mukerji

Dr. Mitali Mukerji was recognized for her work at the Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology leading to impactful contributions in the area of genomics. She joined the Institute in 1997 and has since then been engaged in identification of a functional role of Alu repeats in the human genome and deciphering the genetic basis of neurodegenerative disorders. She has played a lead role in the Indian Genome Variation Consortium that provided the first genetic landscape of the Indian population. She is currently interested in integrating the principles of Indian traditional system of medicine- Ayurveda and genomics.
